Understanding Your Child's Diagnosis

  • A crucial first step to being able to support your young person is to try to understand what ASD is, and more specifically how it affects them.

  • Reading the assessment report is a good starting place as this will detail their unique strengths and areas of need. It may also provide you with some specific recommendations about what may be helpful for them.

  • Attending the ‘Starting Off’ workshop for parents of newly diagnosed school –aged children at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital and also the different topic specific workshops that are on offer.

  • Making yourself familiar with the following websites:

The National Autistic Society

Young Minds

The Girl With The Curly Hair

We also run sessions for parents. Please call Louisa, Helen or Lindsey on 01246 514523 and ask to book on the Parent Information Session.

Please note that these workshops are temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. We are currently looking into an alternative virtual workshop.
